Strong lead up to USGP Rounds 5 and 6 in Lousville, KY

The team is looking very strong this past weekend leading into this coming weekend’s rounds 5 and 6 of the US Gran Prix of Cyclocross series at the Derby City Cup in Louisville, KY. Jeremy Powers did the three days out in Cincinnati, OH at the Cincy3 Cyclocross Festival. Leading the charge against one of Jeremy’s top rivals this season, Ryan Trebon. Jeremy walked away with a pair of wins, including a muddy and hilly first day that Ryan was actually tipped as the favorite for. Zach McDonald also joined Jeremy in Cincinnati on Sunday, and the pair went to work with one goal in mind, to win. Not only did they win, but Zach took his highest ever UCI C1 finish of his career with a third place finish just behind his winning teammate, Jeremy, and Ryan.

Meanwhile on the West Coast, Julie Krasniak took the win at Cross Crusade #7. Speaking of 7, Julie is also ranked 7th in the Women’s Rankings on the cyclingdirt.org Who’s #1 for this week!

On the men’s side, Colt has Jeremy continuing his streak at Number 1, Zach in 10th, and Chris in 16th. Chris Jones will be coming back this weekend, to join the full team in Louisville, KY. This has been a fantastic run up for the team to rounds 5 and 6 of largest North American cyclocross series.

Up Next: Cincy3 Cyclocross Festival

This weekend, the team will be at the Cincy3 Cyclocross Festival in (and around) Cincinnati, OH. Jeremy will be there for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and Zach will join the fun on Sunday. Last year, Jeremy was able to win 2 out of 3 days at the 2010 edition of the Cincy3 going head to head each day against the current #2 spot on Cycling Dirt’s Who’s Number 1, this year’s races should be exciting!

Cycling Dirt’s Who’s Number 1 – November 2, 2011

Jeremy Powers maintains his spot at Number 1 and Julie Krasniak makes her first appearance on Who’s Number 1 after a strong 5th place finish in Boulder!

This weekend, we’ve got some of the team out in Cincinnati, OH for the Cincy3 Cyclocross Festival! Jeremy will be there all three days battling it out with Zach McDonald coming to town on Sunday.

Krasniak Strong in US Debut

Julie basically jumped off the deep end into this cyclocross season, coming off of a short break after the UCI Road Racing World Championships in Copenhagen, DEN by going straight into the first and second rounds of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup series, netting top 25s each day. Julie continued her success this weekend in her North American Cyclocross debut in Boulder, Colorado. Julie had a little bit of a false start on Saturday at the Colorado Cyclocross Classic, crashing out of Top 5 contention, but came through on Sunday with a 5th place finish at the Boulder Cup getting nipped at the line in a two up sprint with Meredith Miler!

Julie reflected on the weekend on Facebook:

Boulder cup: after an horrible crash yesterday and an horrible night, sunny weather and good warm up make me ready for the first good race of my life on cyclo cross!!! Place 5, finish on sprint with meredith miller and… Lost (what surprise!) Hope few nice race again with Rapha focus team

The guys took it easy this weekend recovering from a strong early season campaign, the team will be represented next week at the Cincy3 three day in Cincinnati, OH next weekend, and will once again be all hands on deck the following week at Rounds 5 and 6 of the USGP of Cyclocross at the Derby City Cup in Lousville, KY.

Powers Steady and McDonald Top Ten with full Team Rapha Focus attendance in Tábor

For the first time this 2011-2012 Cyclocross Campaign, Team Rapha FOCUS fielded a full roster at the second round of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup series in the centuries old city of Tábor in the Czech Republic.

Zach McDonald was the first to race in the U23 Men’s race wearing the US National Team kit. While this was the 2nd round of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup series, this was the first round of the espoir (U23) series. The race was dominated by the current U23 World Champion, Lars van der Haar of the Netherlands, Zach was able to make good on a front row start and into a large chase group and was in contention for third place for the entire race. Zach ultimately finished in 10th on the day, his highest placing in a World Cup race yet!

Julie Krasniak was next to go, showing some strong form in her second race of the season. Julie finished 24th despite a crash at the start causing Julie to be separated from her shoe and having to chase back through the field.

Jeremy Powers and Chris Jones were the last to go in the Elite Men’s race. A race dominated by the current Elite Men’s World Champion Zdenek Stybar and Kevin Pauwels, Stybar seemed to be having the most fun on the day hitting the steep roller with plenty of style and flair. Jeremy spent much of the race with Bart Wellens (who ultimately was able to bridge the gap into the Top 10) riding strong and steady coming in 15th and top American finisher. Chris Jones continues to show good form coming back from his early season injury finishing 52nd on the day.

Next up, we have Julie coming state side for a few races and a small break for the guys. Look for the team next weekend in Boulder, Colorado at the UCI C2 Colorado Cross Classic and the UCI C1 Boulder Cup.
