One half of the Rapha-FOCUS squad, Chris Jones traveled to Cincinnati for the three day UCI3 Cyclocross Festival and continued his rise through the elite ranks of US crossers. On Friday, Jones soldiered to a solid 7th place on a course the promoter called a “filling-rattler,” Jones battled constant hills and unseasonable heat to show that he is definitely one of the top US CX contenders. Saturday found Jones riding his Mares CX-1 to 5th at day two, animating a chase group behind eventual winner Jeremy Powers that included Geoff Kabush and Tristan Schouten.
With two warm-up races under his belt, CJ could take on the real aim of the weekend–Sunday¹s race presented by local bike shop Bio Wheels. The weather was unseasonably hot in the Queen city, a town in the throws of a MLB playoff disaster, on Sunday. While eventual winner Jeremy Powers dueled with Ryan Trebon, Jones battled back from an early race crash for his 3rd UCI CX podium of what is turning out to be an amazingly consistent season.
“The plan was to come here to gather UCI points and score a podium finish, which we executed perfectly,” said CJ before boarding a plane out of the Midwest. “I was surprised by the amount of Rapha- FOCUS love the people of Ohio had–the team received huge support all weekend from the local crowds. And FOCUS dealer Mitch from Bio Wheels deserves a huge shout for organizing a flawless three days of racing.” Jones added that he is looking forward to taking a week off of racing to attend the Telluride Film Festival, before hitting the next round of the USGP in Louisville, KY.

As much as we would like to follow Chris and Zach as they race all over the country, cheering, swinging cowbells, waving Rapha-FOCUS Umbrellas, we can’t. Which is why we need your help!
We’re looking to have amateur photographers submit photos from the races for a chance to win a Rapha-FOCUS Cap each week, and potentially something even bigger at the end of the season! “We are talking – come away looking (and smelling) like a PRO good.”
For more details on eligibility and how to enter, hit up the Rapha Blog.
